Item Description: Diana Vreeland's Saint Laurent navy wool pea coat, late 1960s, Rive Gauche labelled, double-breasted, with red Legion d'Honneur ribbon to the curved collar, chest 92cm, 36in Mrs Vreeland was created chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 1970. Upon receiving news of this honour she sent a telegram to her son Frederic (then a diplomat with the US embassy in Paris), saying 'darling buy me 5 yards of that ribbon'. As only a cm of the ribbon could be used on any single garment - this was an extremely extravagant request. She wore the coat until 1980 when she gave it to a family friend who she felt needed to keep warm!
